Cardiac CT

Cardiac CT allows yet again a different way to look at the heart. It is especially useful for precise measurements of heart structures and can be used as an alternative form of angiography (CTCA).

Wakefield Hospital Opens New $3.3 Million Cath Lab

The new Catheterisation Laboratory is the first of its kind in New Zealand, providing the next generation imaging for cardiology and radiology examinations.  The unique technology at the heart of this new system significantly improves image quality whilst drastically reducing radiation dose to the patient (and operator) by up to 60% compared to conventional imaging equipment.
The lab, which visualises the blood vessels of the heart, or other areas of the body such as the leg and brain, and can be used to treat any abnormality found, will enable Wakefield Hospital specialists to provide an enhanced range of services and manage cardiovascular disease for thousands of patients in the region every year.
Coronary Angioplasty and stenting, the closure of some congenital heart defects, the treatment of stenotic heart valves, electrophysiology studies and implanting pacemakers will be among the many procedures carried out at the new lab.[link]

Wakefield Heart Center First in New Echocardiography Technology

Wakefield Heart Centre will offer the latest generation of cardiac echocardiography scanner when we reopen in January 2016. It was just recently released in the USA and Europe and it will be one of the first in this part of the world.
It offers advanced 3D technology and yet a sharper and more detailed view of the heart.
This new scanner helps us in the diagnosis of structural heart disease, heart failure, valve problems. It can be used for adults and children and it is also used for some procedures in the cath lab that involve implantation of larger devices (ASD, PFO. LAA, TAVI).
