FAQs

When did the program start?

HeartWorks was born in June of 2016. We have since expanded from our space in Wakefield Hospital to our new facility called “The Clinic” in Thorndon Quay.

How does the cardiac rehab program work?

You get in touch with us and we figure out what is required. That might be a referral. Or we might need to get some of your medical records - with your approval. All patient referrals are reviewed by a cardiologist and once accepted are seen and assessed by an exercise physiologist. Then you start your 12 week foundation program or enrol into 'the Clinic', our gym membership with or without classes.

How can I join?

The process around joining is mostly designed to make sure that cardiac rehab is safe and appropriate for you. You can find details here but if in doubt just get in touch.

How much will the program cost?

We are currently updating our cost structure. Please get in touch to discuss these further. We are now able to offer different types of classes and also our clinic program - a membership that opens the gym to use in your own time +/- joining classes.

Will my insurance cover the costs?

HeartWorks is very fortunate that Southern Cross Insurance is covering the 12 Week Rehabilitation Program for some of their patients. Some - mostly clinical - conditions apply but we are happy to advise and talk to Southern Cross on your behalf.
With other insurances you might be able to make an application for funding, also funding might be available if the rehab program helps you to get back to work.

Will my employer help with the costs ?

Some participants have access to reimbursement through their employer. The benefit is clear, you get back to work quicker and feel better. Works both ways. Please enquire with your employer.

I need to see a cardiologist, can you help ?

Sure. Just go into the contact section of the website and fill out a form. Usually a referral from your GP or other doctor is helpful. But feel free to get in touch and we will see how we can help you.

Why did you move to a new venue at 202 Thorndon Quay?

Wakefield Hospital is being rebuilt and in April 2021 the former HeartWorks gym is scheduled to be demolished. We are very grateful for the opportunity that Acurity/Wakefield Hospital has given us to Start the program. But now we are taking a big step. We hope you like location, venue and the new gear.

What happens if I want to continue with HeartWorks after my program has finished?

We are starting with a new membership programs that allow you to continue on with your training with us in the new clinic either in a scheduled class time or at your own connivence. Keep building on what you have built during your concentrated 12-weeks with us, staying in the familiar environment and with the knowledge that we have got your cardiovascular health covered.
